Too often, students are told that there are not enough jobs in the artistic fields and instead treat visual art, apparel, and photography as hobbies. While that can be true, there are options for those interested in pursuing these as full time careers.

Photography

Apparel 1 and 2:
Students are taught valuable lessons in these courses, such as sewing and mending clothes which is a fading skill in the modern world. After graduation, there are local opportunities for students with skills in textiles at local factories. Certifications are available through these jobs, which can lead into personal businesses and turning valuable skills into a life-long lucrative career.

Students can take
PHO 110-Fundamentals of Photography or
PHY 115- Basic Studio Lighting
AND
PHO 139-Intro to Digital Imaging or
PHO 224- Multimedia Production
While still in high school to get a head start toward getting an Associate degree in Applied Science Photography.
Fine art
Carteret Community College offers an Associate in Fine Arts to transfer to a UNC college. This path is predominately for students who have a profound interest in the historical significance of art and appreciation of it on a deeper level, as well as wanting to pursue a career in a subject they enjoy.
