Hospitality Management 

"The Hospitality Management curriculum prepares students to understand and apply the administrative and practical skills needed for supervisory and managerial positions in hotels, motels, resorts, inns, restaurants, institutions, and clubs." This program allows students to choose between a couple of paths to take. There are two certificates students can receive, Hotel Management and Restaurant Management. Both of these options allow job placement in entry-level supervisory positions in these areas. This program is especially important in a area such as this, with such a prominent tourism industry.  For more information about this Associates Program contact your CCC counselor or Shana Olmstead at olmsteads@carteret.edu.

Culinary Arts

"This curriculum provides specific training required to prepare students to assume positions as trained culinary professionals in a variety of food service settings including full service restaurants, hotels, resorts, clubs, catering operations, contract food service and health care facilities." This program teaches various skills needed in the food service industry, allowing for a student get certified under the American Culinary Federation. Students who complete this program can qualify for jobs such as prep cook, line cook, and station chef. These type of jobs average about $23,100 annually. After experience in the workplace, graduates can move up to jobs such as sous chef, pastry chef, executive chef, or food service manager. These types of jobs average about $40,000-$50,000 annually. For a more specific field within Culinary Arts, CCC also provides a Baking and Pastry Arts program, which also allows for a certification by the American Culinary Federation. Human Services

Human Services Technology

"The Human Services Technology curriculum prepares students for entry-level positions in institutions and agencies which provide social, community, and educational services. " Students in this program can take courses preparing them for specialization in specific fields of study. In five semesters, one can finish this program and expect a multitude of job options, in fields such as, mental health, child care, family services, social sciences, rehabilitation, correction, and educational agencies. WCHS Resources

Many classes right here at WCHS can help you on your path into the Tourism and Hospitality service sectors. On the Culinary Arts side, students can take Foods I & II along with Pro Start I & II. Tied with business classes offered at WCHS, these courses can help you find your way to a job in these fields. While in High School students can take courses at CCC, to get a head start on classes for these paths, consider taking courses such as Psychology, Sanitation and Safety and other base level courses. Contact your high school counselor or Ms. Hesmer/ Ms. Lewis in the Family and Consumer Science Department.
